The Chantry, Bishopthorpe

On behalf of our client, Vincent & Partners submitted planning & listed building consent to extend their Grade II listed home in Bishopthorpe, York.

The brief was to provide the owners with a new light and airy living space opening onto a generous garden. The new extension evokes the design of classical orangeries while being distinctly modern, with large amounts of glazing and feature oversailing roof. A new patio will continue the space outdoors, providing greater flexibility for the residents and a new area from which to enjoy the elegant gardens that form the setting of this listed building.

Following a productive pre-app, a planning application was submitted in Spring 2021 by Architect Rachel Stancliffe who had to consider not only the dwelling's listed status but high archaeological interest and it's position within both Bishopthorpe's conservation area and the York Green belt.

Planning approval and listed building consent was granted in December 2021.
