Listed building consent to renovate beautiful farmhouse
This listed property was in a state of disrepair when the owner, a local farmer, approached us. He wanted us to design a scheme and secure planning permission and listed building consent so he could then sell it on to a developer to build the scheme out. The site included a farmhouse and a set of lovely, threshing barns and other outbuildings. Our longstanding clients, the owners of Orchard Developments, bought the site and retained us to complete the project.
About our client
Orchard Developments has over 30 years’ experience in the housebuilding industry in Yorkshire. They build around 15 hand-crafted and high-quality new homes a year across several sites. They employ highly skilled craftsmen to ensure exceptional levels of finish and they offer buyers the chance to put their own mark on a home during the design phase.
Our role
Grade II Listed Deighton Hall has been fully restored and refurbished into a four bedroom family home and the agricultural buildings have been converted into three other four bedroom properties, one of which includes a one bedroom annex. We worked with planners to secure full planning and listed building consent to save the farmstead from disrepair. Our clients now live in one of the properties on site and have sold the other properties.
Working with listed buildings
The farmhouse had significant structural damage and at one point our client wanted to demolish it. We persuaded them to repair and renovate the house sympathetically. To celebrate the building. With out help, our clients realised that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a property like this to a state where you can resell. The best approach is to find the right buyer. This project is another good example of the challenges of buying, owning and working on a listed building. We helped our client see through the disrepair and complex works to see a listed property that is now full of quirky original features.
