The Castle Hotel
Expansion of leading Windsor hotel
The Castle Hotel Windsor is a Grade II-listed building located in central Windsor. The existing Park Wing to the rear comprises three sections, built in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The brief from our client was to consider opportunities for expansion of the Park Wing within the context of the existing courtyard and adjacent public open space at Bachelor’s Acre.
About our client
The Castle Hotel in Windsor is part of a collection that also includes The Francis Hotel in Bath and The Athenaeum in London. The collection aims to celebrate the local community of each hotel, whilst creating a meaningful and memorable stay for guests, with the best of British quality and service at their very core.
Our role
We are providing a full architectural service for the expansion of this leading hotel. The scheme will provide 47 additional hotel rooms within the Park Wing, some of which will be fully accessible and all of which are to be served by two new passenger lifts.
Mixing heritage and hospitality skills
Hotels are complicated buildings and older hotels may have been adapted and extended multiple times over many years as is the case with The Castle Hotel in Windsor. This project provides an opportunity to combine our skills and experiences working with listed buildings and with hospitality properties to create a more positive aspect to the public open space than the existing building and help unify the disparate rear courtyard with the historic High Street part of the hotel.
