An application for planning consent has been submitted for the residential re-development and refurbishment of Beverley House on Shipton Road in York. Purchased from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the substantial dwelling was formerly home to the general manager of York’s Rowntree Cocoa Works but more recently housed the Local Government Ombudsmen office.
Working in close collaboration with our client, Inglehurst Property, Vincent & Partners put forward proposals that would rejuvenate and revitalise this grand Victorian Villa, with the addition of new-build residential blocks to the side and rear that enclose a new landscaped courtyard. The scheme will deliver 20 new homes as part of a senior living initiative, filling a widening gap in demand within the housing market for this type of development. Under the plans, each residence will benefit from its close proximity to York, good pedestrian links and access to electric vehicle charging points within the grounds.
After years of sitting vacant, the original villa will be sensitively returned to its former glory, with unsympathetic extensions removed and original features restored. The new residential blocks will nestle unobtrusively within the grounds reflecting the architectural style of the main house. The new green, landscaped courtyard will create a communal centre to the development, encouraging a sense of community and inclusivity for the new residents.
