Cottage Farm
Farmstead conversion creates four rural homes
This project includes the sensitive renovation and conversion of an old farm building into two homes, plus two additional newbuild houses on the same site. The new builds have been carefully designed to respect the history and context of the site.
About our client
Ambleside Homes create high-quality, individual and contemporary homes in the beautiful villages of North Yorkshire. They are an award-winning small developer creating properties that sit well in their rural context. Their aim is to create architecturally-designed houses that inspire, delight and provide a welcoming haven and to bring individuality and honesty to their work.
Our role
In order to achieve the best result for our clients, we developed a planning strategy for this project which included concurrent Class Q and full planning applications to convert the existing farm building, followed by a Section 73 application (full planning) to improve some of the conversions. Another full planning application was then submitted to replace the Class Q barn with newbuild dwellings with a more sympathetic layout and appearance. Throughout we worked closely with the client, planning consultant and case officer.
Building client confidence
There is a thread that runs through a number of our SME housebuilders and residential developer clients. They all use us because we do what we say we’re going to do. They are confident that we will always try our hardest to get them what they want, but always in a positive way. They trust to navigate the challenges of complicated sites and to always keep their ambitions for a site in mind, even if that means suggesting a different design or strategy. They also appreciate that we will take the time to go through options in detail with them so that they can make a genuinely informed decision as to the route they want to take.
